Interview with: Benjamin, 19 years old, Aventus Apeldoorn

When ClapLab 2 started, at that time I started to get support from my personal helper (Jeroen) and he was asked to come as a leader to ClapLab and then he just asked me if I wanted to go to Lithuania. First I was “Why Lithuania?” I didn’t have a lot to do, so I just wanted to try it. When I went it was really fun, so I wanted to go again as well. I never flew before, so I knew I had the opportunity to go by plane, so I thought I was gonna fly. That was also a motivation.

Non-formal learning really worked for me, because learning by doing is a lot easier for me than reading a book. You can use your feelings and emotions and you are standing right next to the person you are working with. If they have more knowledge about a topic, they can teach you and show you how it works. One of the energizers, a Norwegian dance, was really funny, because you could actually play with the other participants and try to be the last one standing.

Thanks to the programmes I have gotten a lot more self-confidence and I started to notice that I found talking to people a lot easier. Also, I got a lot more comfortable about myself. I try to reach out to people more, which I didn’t do before. What I definitely want to do after the programmes, is to help others more. I like this for example in one-on-one situations, because it is easier to show people that they are a good person and everything about them is unique.

Since Lead the Change and Big Questions of Life I definitely want to travel more and get to know new people. I made the choice to go back to school again next year. First, I wanted to do something with Social Work, but it didn’t really work. Now I am going to study game development, which is about writing codes, and making applications.

I made the following programmes possible;
